July 2009
This month has been quite busy, with a lot
of travelling round for concerts, as well as
sorting out the final details for the new CD
Undiscovered Islands which will be released
in August.

One very interesting trip was to the Leeds
Conductors Competition, where Invisible Cities
was being used as one of the test pieces in a round
that also included Stravinsky and Rachmaninov.
The orchestra for the competition was the
Orchestra of Opera North.
It's certainly fascinating to hear a piece of mine rehearsed
and performed by six different conductors!
And the standard was extremely high, as it is the UK's
leading competition for conductors.
The eventual winner was  Geoffrey Paterson.

April 2009
I've been rather tardy in updating this page recently, life has been very busy! I've been getting on with a number of projects, including pieces for Evelyn Glennie, Piotr Szewczyk, the Kinesis Quintet, and Duomilonga. And I've also had requests for arrangements of existing pieces. Here's a brief summary of other activities;

RECORDINGS - There's been a lot of activity with recordings in the last few months, especially with the first CD devoted to my music which should be released fairly soon. This was recorded at St. Georges in Bristol last autumn, by Mark Tanner and Gillian Poznansky. The CD will contain almost all my piano pieces to date, as well as some works involving the flute, both classical and tango. There have also been several other recordings released in the US in the last few months which feature my music.

PREMIERES - I'll update the list of premieres soon, which will include new arrangements as well as first performances in Europe and the US. I'm just waiting for confirmation on some dates.

PUBLISHING - Tonos music in Germany have now got most of my works available for sale. The scores have been stylishly produced and can be purchased from their website at www.tonosmusic.com

September 07
After the successful premiere of my Sonata for violin and piano I’m now getting back to work on quite a long piano piece for Mark Tanner, which will be premiered at Wigmore Hall in 2008. I’ve also recently completed A la Tristeza, a setting of Neruda which was commissioned by Tres Calides. Amongst the arrangements that I have to make at the moment is one of Milonga Azure for bandoneon and strings which has been commissioned by the BBC Concert Orchestra.

American violinist Melissa Reiner is recording a new CD in September, and this will include Alba, Spanish Café, and Geranos.

May 07
The start of April saw the first performance of quite a long and intricate tango, Mediterranean Counterpoint, which was given at the CBSO Centre in Birmingham by El Utimo Tango. The next new work will be a two movement Sonata for violin and piano which will get its premiere at the Leasowes Bank Festival in July, being performed by Siân Philipps and Zrinka Bottrill. I’m looking forward to returning to Leasowes (where my recent string quartet was played last year) as it’s a relaxed and informal festival held in a beautiful location on the Welsh borders, and I also get a chance to see some distant mountains (not many in Cornwall…!).

Currently I’m working on a number of chamber pieces, including a setting of Neruda for soprano, flute and harp, as well as frequent re-arrangements of existing tangos.

I should also mention a recent recording made by Christina Smith and Elisabeth Remy (principal flute and harp of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra) of a new CD which will include The Stolen Branch, Milonga Azure, and Pájaros del Mar, this should be released in the autumn.
